Visi Tilak a journalist and author, published in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, NPR, US News and World Report, Boston Globe, among others. I also have several chapters published in non-fiction anthologies and encyclopedias. One of the winners of the 2015 International Twitter Fiction Festival, I live tweeted a "story in tweets" alongside the likes of Celeste Ng, Chuck Wendig, Margaret Atwood and many others. This tweeted story is going into a collection of connected short stories for adults which I hope to query in the near future. My creative non-fiction essays have also won awards from Writer’s Digest Magazine. My articles are available to read at (http://visitlak.contently.com). I really enjoy writing in multiple genres for varied audiences. STEM, Diversity - celebrating our differences and how they unite us, are the keystone of all my work. When I am not writing, I am creating and showing my art in galleries in the Boston area, volunteering, and serving on the boards of arts and culture organizations in the New England area. I am co-founder of Once Upon A Bookfest, a childrens’ book festival, and CultureFest a multicultural arts and culture festival. I also serve on the Board of Directors of the Metrowest YMCA, and am co-chair of the Leadership Committee to bring a new regional YMCA to the area. After successfully completing a Feasibility Study, that was approved by our Board, we are currently in our Capital Campaign phase. Fun facts about me: I am of Indian American origin, I love draping myself in saris, and wearing other Indian outfits and jewelry; I love musicals, whether Broadway, Tollywood, or Bollywood; I’m a huge sucker for tearjerkers - happy stories and for heart-wrenching stories, whatever the target age might be; Don’t be surprised if you find me sitting cross-legged at the children’s section of a local/used bookstore, reading picture books and board books; I love music of all kinds, the funkier the better; I am an artist and I show at galleries; Art museums and the outdoors (of any kind) are my favorite getaway! I LOVE to travel and discover new places and cultures and partake in different kinds of food, as long as it is vegetarian and animal friendly! Super short I am a journalist and author, published in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, NPR, US News and World Report, Boston Globe, among others.
